Men I'm Not Married To
Music by Lisa DeSpain
Libretto by Rachel J. Peters
Commissioned by Baldwin Wallace Conservatory/Cleveland Opera Theatre
Based on a short story by Dorothy Parker, MEN I’M NOT MARRIED TO answers the question, “What is really going on inside a ladies lounge.”
It’s the 1920s. Three bridesmaid have been matched with ill-mannered groomsmen. In the safety of the ladies lounge, they commiserate, laugh, perform hilarious impressions, drink, smoke, and cut off their hair (flapper bob.)
MEN I’M NOT MARRIED TO is steeped in the music of the 1920s, Eddie Cantor and Sophie Tucker’s vaudeville songs and craze for syncopated jazz of King Oliver and the Original Dixieland Jazz Band (ODJB.)
